What Can (and Can't) Go in a Rental Dumpster in Florida
August 24, 2026 · DumpsterX Rentals
Almost everything that comes out of a Florida house or job site can go in the bin: furniture, mattresses, carpet, drywall, lumber, cabinets, siding, fencing, yard waste, boxes, and plain household junk. TVs and tires are accepted too, with a $25 per-item disposal fee. The short "no" list is where people get tripped up: wet paint, batteries, hazardous chemicals and liquids, asbestos, food waste, and flammable materials. Concrete, dirt, brick and block are a separate category that needs approval before we load the truck.
That's the whole answer. Here's the detail so nothing surprises you on delivery day.
What goes in, no questions asked
If it came out of a home, a garage, a rental turnover, or a remodel, it almost certainly belongs in the dumpster:
- Furniture and household goods — couches, mattresses, dressers, tables, carpet and padding, clothes, toys, boxes of "someday" stuff.
- Construction and remodel debris — drywall, lumber, trim, doors, cabinets, countertops, tile, flooring, siding, insulation.
- Yard waste — branches, palm fronds, brush, sod, old fencing, deck boards, pool deck furniture.
- General junk — garage clutter, shed contents, storage unit leftovers, plastic, metal, wood, cardboard.
Mixed loads are normal. You do not have to sort a cleanout into neat piles. Throw the whole mess in and we haul it.
The two items that carry a $25 fee
TVs and tires. Both are accepted, and both cost $25 per item because the landfill charges us separately to take them. Old tube TV in the garage plus four tires off the truck is $125 added to your bill. We would rather tell you that up front than write it on the invoice at pickup.
What never goes in a dumpster
These are not "we'd prefer you didn't" items. They are refused at the scale house, and any honest hauler will tell you the same:
- Wet paint — liquid paint in the can is out. Once it's dried solid (lid off, a bag of kitty litter stirred in speeds it up), it isn't wet paint anymore and it can go in.
- Batteries — car, marine, lithium, power tool packs. Auto parts and hardware stores will usually take them back.
- Hazardous chemicals and liquids — pool chemicals, solvents, pesticides, motor oil, antifreeze, propane tanks. Ask your county's solid waste department where to drop household hazardous waste.
- Asbestos — old popcorn ceiling, certain floor tiles and mastic, some pipe wrap. This needs a licensed abatement contractor, not a dumpster. If a 1970s house is fighting you, get it tested before you start swinging.
- Food waste — it rots, it smells, it draws animals in Florida heat, and the bin may sit on your driveway for days.
- Flammable materials — gas cans, fuel, anything that can ignite in a metal box baking in the sun.
Heavy material is a separate conversation
Concrete, dirt, brick and block are dense enough to overload a truck long before the bin looks full. That's why heavy material needs prior approval and runs on its own rate: a 10-yard concrete bin at $390 plus tax, filled three-quarters maximum, and clean heavy material only — no wood, no trash mixed in. Call before you start demo so we send the right bin the first time.
Roofing has its own rule
Shingles go in the 10 or the 17 yard only, never the 22 or the 30. A full 30 loaded with shingles is simply too heavy to haul legally, so we don't offer it. We also won't guess your roof's weight over the phone — the certified scale ticket decides, and you get a copy. As a general industry rule of thumb, roughly 7 squares of architectural shingles run about a ton, and a second layer doubles it. Use that to plan, not to bank on. More on sizing at roofing dumpsters.

The habit that saves everyone money: text a photo
If an item isn't clearly on one list or the other — an odd appliance, a hot tub, a pile you can't name, a shed you're about to knock down — take a photo and text it to us before the truck rolls. It takes thirty seconds and it prevents the two expensive surprises: material we can't legally haul, and a load heavier than the size you booked.
Weight matters because every bin includes a tonnage allowance (1 ton on the 10 yard, 2 on the 17 and 22, 3 on the 30). Go over and it's $120 per ton, prorated by the actual pound from the landfill's certified scale ticket, which we hand you. No rounding up, no guessing. The full breakdown is on our sizes and pricing page.
What if something banned ends up in the bin anyway
Tell us. Really. If a helper tossed in a paint can or a car battery while you weren't looking, a two-minute heads-up lets us pull it before the load hits the scale. Finding it at the landfill costs a lot more to fix than pulling it off your driveway.
